delicate people is a performance developed with sculptor Cécile Bouffard, whose forms, worn and carried rather than merely staged, choreograph the body as much as they are choreographed by it. The piece treats sculpture as a partner rather than a prop, working through figures the artists describe as delicate: the hermit, the marginal, the abnormal.
The next day, Ruth Childs will talk about her artistic practice in Artistic Methodologies detailing her experience as a performer and choreographer over the last 20 years and particularly her experience as artistic director of the company Scarlett’s, developing work in dance, performance and music. Scarlett’s favors a collaborative, experimental and multidisciplinary approach to dance. Ruth is interested in dialoguing between expressive and abstract material and utilizes juxtaposition, collage, humor and rhythm to compose her pieces in close collaboration with sound, visual and dance artists.
Ruth Childs (b. 1984, London) is a dancer and choreographer based in Geneva, founder of the company Scarlett's. She trained with the Ballet Junior de Genève and has worked with Foofwa d'Imobilité, La Ribot, Gilles Jobin, and Massimo Furlan, among others. Since 2015 she has led a re-creation project on the early works of her aunt, the choreographer Lucinda Childs. Her solo Blast! (2022) received the Prix suisse des arts de la scène.
The exhibition program is indebted to the Artist-in-Residence Program made possible by the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation.
